I am a sucker for breakfast restaurants. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day even though I usually eat it sometime after 2pm. I’ve discovered a new breakfast restaurant called The Eye Opener. It is located at Wallhaven in the strip mall on the corner of West Market St. and South Hawkins in Akron. The interior is bright and cheery with pictures of old Akron on the walls. But most importantly the breakfasts are very good. I usually order the Eggs Benedict first at any breakfast restaurant just as a measuring stick against which to judge them all. The Eye Opener Eggs Benedict is quite good and the Hollandaise sauce is topped with paprika. I like mine topped with cayenne sauce, but this was almost as good. The next time in I ordered the Morning Sunshine omelet, consisting of three eggs, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, spinach and cheddar cheese. This was also very good and it comes with browned potatoes, which are an excellent substitute for the usual hash browns. The owners are Liz and Steve Arn, who also own Arnie’s Standing Room Only Bar a few doors down from The Eye Opener. In addition to the usual breakfast fare they also have a full menu of burgers and other lunch entrées. The Eye Opener is located at 1688 West Market St. They are open Monday through Saturday from 6:30am till 4pm and on Sunday from 8am till 3pm.
