Finest Cut Steak Cookoff

Eight backyard chefs will be showing off their mad grilling skills at this year’s Finest Steak Cookoff. If you think you’ve got the right stuff to be one of them, download an application that includes your recipe name, ingredients and instructions at akronartsexpo.org or westpointmarket.com.

Recipes will be screened by a committee at West Point Market based on originality and creativity. Finalists win the chance to prepare their steaks live for a panel of judges at A Taste of Akron. The judges’ four favorites will win gift certificates (ranging in value from $100 to $500) to West Point Market.

The Taste of Akron runs in conjunction with the annual Akron Arts Expo. It showcases more than 25 of the areas best classic and ethnic restaurants who offer food samples for $2, $4 and $6. The Steak Cookoff was added to the event last year. Between 40-50 applicants submitted recipes, according to Nolan Scales, community event planner for the Akron Recreation Bureau. He anticipates an even hotter competition this year.-JD
