In one of the last places you would think the craft beer scene to make some waves, Wooster is the latest location of a brand new brewery.
With a soft open set for mid-July with a limited array of brews, including a cream ale and an india pale ale as the first few beers unleashed, the Wooster Brewery expects to have a full list of beers as well as a grand opening sometime in early fall.
Owner and brewer Paul Fryman, who once worked for the likes of Great Divide Brewing, Snake River Brewery and Great Adirondack Brewing, is opening the Wooster Brewery in downtown Wooster making it the first craft brewery in Wayne County. Fryman is already the proud owner of two silvers and a bronze medal for a stout, kolsch and saison at the Great American Beer Festival thanks to his brewing skills at Great Adirondack.
The Wooster Brewery, which is located in an 100 year-old and counting large red brick building in the heart of the city, houses a seven-barrel, steam production brewery and a 3,140 square foot tasting room.
According to a recent interview with beer author and journalist Rick Armon, Fryman plans to bring forth a malty red ale, hoppy brown ale and a foreign-style stout to add to the already brewing cream ale and IPA.
Aside from offering their beer by glass and growler fills at the brewery, Fryman plans to distribute his beers to Northeast Ohio bars and restaurants.
