Washington (Massillon) and McKinley (Canton) high schools are joining the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Mix 94.1 and News-Talk 1480 WHBC in the fight against hunger by launching Food Fight, a competition between the schools with the proceeds helping to feed the hungry in our community.
The students will collect non-perishable food and financial donations for the foodbank now into Oct. 26th the day before the famous rivalry high school football game. The rival schools will compete for a traveling trophy, a day at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and on air bragging rights from MIX 94.1 and News-Talk 1480 WHBC.
The winning high school will be determined by the number of meals donated to the Foodbank, and will be announced during the football game between Massillon and McKinley on Oct. 27.
“Many people in our community are struggling with hunger, and our agencies continue to see new faces reaching out for assistance,” said Dan Flowers, President and CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. We are very grateful to our area schools for recognizing the need and for holding this exciting competition as a promotion to benefit the Foodbank.”
Financial donations can be made now at www.akroncantonfoodbank.org. Please specify the school of your choice. The public can also drop off donations at the following locations: The Pro Football Hall of Fame, McKinley High School, Washington High School, Mix 94.1 and News-Talk 1480 WHBC. The donations collected will go towards the schools final meal count.
On the final day of the competition, Friday Oct. 26, News-Talk 1480 WHBC and Mix 94.1 morning shows will broadcasting live from their studios’ front lawn at 550 Market Ave. South promoting the competition, and accepting food and financial donations for the Foodbank.
